Overview
For more than 20 years, the Chicago Quantitative Alliance has brought together leading quantitative finance professionals. Its website is the hub for that community: conferences, academic sessions, competitions and membership.
The challenge
CQA runs a busy calendar across several cities, including Chicago, Boston, Las Vegas, New York and Hong Kong. Members and presenters needed one reliable place to find events, register and manage their membership.
What I built
- Events hub. Upcoming conferences and seminars, each with its own details.
- Conference registration. A clear path from announcement to sign-up.
- Membership and payments. Join, renew and pay online.
- Presenter and sponsor pages. Pages that support the programme around each event.
Under the hood
- Ruby on Rails following MVC conventions
- PostgreSQL for relational data across members, events and registrations
- Service objects and background jobs for business logic, notifications and heavier work
- Query optimization with eager loading throughout to keep pages fast
Outcome
A dependable home for a long-running professional community, making it easy to find the next event and be part of it.
